Things To Do In Winter in St Ives

During the summer months, the St Ives beaches are incredibly busy, packed with friends, families and surfers enjoying the sunshine (mostly!) During the winter they are blissfully quiet. As the St Ives dog ban is lifted our furry friends are welcome on all of St Ives beaches. Porthmeor, Porthminster, Porthgwidden, Bamaluz and Harbour Beach all become a dog walkers paradise. Wrap up warm and make the most of that brisk sea air!

Let us face it, St Ives car parks are a nightmare in the spring/summer months! Thankfully the winter months generally mean fewer visitors which means far more car parking spaces are available.

St Ives in winter is perfect for surfers! Waves swell across the Cornish coast driven by low pressure systems off the Atlantic creating a hugely exciting surfers paradise. If you’re an experienced surfer the winter months are a great opportunity to make the most of the cold water wonderland that awaits you!

Food

Contrary to popular belief many of St Ives cafes, bars and restaurants are open during the winter months. Enjoy a meal overlooking Harbour Beach at Talay Thai or the Porthminster Kitchen or simply enjoy a coffee & cake at the cosy Yellow Canary Café. If you prefer your food on the go there are numerous places to grab a hot coffee, sandwich or my favourite cornish pasty, the possibilities are endless!

Coastal Walks

St Ives has an abundance of wonderfully scenic coastal walks. Wrap up warm and walk from St Ives to Zennor with a stop off at the Tinners Arms, alternatively, a gentle stroll along the coastal path to Carbis Bay is a great way to pass an hour or so and the views across the Bay and over to Hayle are outstanding. If you prefer to stay in town, a potter around the cobbled streets of St Ives is a great way to while away the hours.

Art

St Ives has a number of studios & art galleries showcasing the work of many local artists whilst also giving you the opportunity to purchase many wonderful prints, paintings and sculptures or even giving you the opportunity to make your own! In addition to these independent galleries and studios there is also the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden both a must do for you art lovers out there.

Relax
